Sweco Fab, designed and fabricated a high pressure knock-out drum for a refining company in El Paso, Texas. The pressure vessel was designed according to ASME Section VIII Div. 1 codes with an overall height of 351″ and inside drum diameter of 48″. Its main application is to separate the vapor and liquid in the refining process. It contains a fire proofing skirt and a stainless steel demister pad that aids the separation process. The shell is fabricated from 3/8″ thick SA516 Grade 70 carbon steel, and the forge fittings are fabricated from SA105 carbon steel. The knock out drum has an operation temperature of 450°F at 125 psig, and underwent radiography, dye penetrant and hydro-tests before it was shipped.
